VKB Bracing

Thanks to new materials and new technologies in arthroscopy, it is now possible to give the cruciate ligament the chance to heal. This requires a fresh injury and a tear close to the bone, where sufficient stem cells and healing factors are already present. Prof. Dr. med. Philip Schoettle is a protagonist, inventor and pioneer in the field of ACL Bracing Repair technology and focuses on a gentle minimal surgical procedure that is supported by additional biological treatment. In “ligament bracing”, the injured ligament structures are no longer replaced by large operations and reconstructions as in the past. The post op therefore is not any longer followed by an “immobilization” which often meant the end of a sports season. Now the ligaments are strengthened by a mini surgical intervention for fast and almost painless self-healing. A “fibre tape” is incorporated into the injured structure without destroying the band’s own blood supply.

In addition, it is reinforced with a titanium-reinforced thread in the sense of an inner splint. This restores bone contact and strengthens the ligament structure. The special advantages are obvious. The blood supply to the cruciate ligament is guaranteed again and healing can take place. The special anatomy of the cruciate ligament is preserved and thus also its unique biomechanics. The proprioceptive abilities of the cruciate ligament are also preserved. No tendon has to be removed and transplanted. This means that the post-treatment period is significantly reduced, no tendon removal is necessary and the patient only has to undergo arthroscopic surgery.
